Go Take A Shower

My husband recently installed new shower heads at my mother-in-law's house. That is one of the few things around the house he can do well and quickly (although this time he left a bite mark on the shower neck in the master bath, lol). It got me to thinking about my life in the Philippines where our life was simple and our shower heads were wide mouth buckets with water in them, at least until we had running water installed in the house much later in my life.

I guess you could define buckets as low pressure shower heads. They are not as easy on the eyes as the shower heads I have linked to, but they are effective none the less. You are able to get yourself clean in a very inefficient way unlike the modern low pressure shower heads that allow you to clean your self in an environmentally conscience way. Although you don’t get that cold rush of soapy water massaging the top of your feet like you do with buckets.

When I was young washing at the local well, or in my family's wash room, I would have never dreamed of something like handheld shower heads being in my home. Yet, I actually experienced the joy of a handheld shower head when I was married in Hawaii. The control this gives you over water is absolutely amazing. No more soapy arm pits. You can direct and control the flow of water however you want. Of all modern shower heads, these are the closest I can find to a bucket.

Oh the joy of showering. It is one of the few times that I can be alone with my thoughts. It does not matter to me if I am under a high or low pressure shower head or if I am using a handheld shower head as long as I am alone and in a soothing/relaxing me moment.

Friend's Birthday

Yesterday was a great day. I went to a birthday party. It was a surprise party for a good Filipina friend. There were a lot of Pinays in the party and it felt like I was in my hometown which was a good feeling. My friend was really surprised when she got into her house from their garage and she saw all of us waiting for her. I bet that was a great moment for her.

Here is a picture of all the Filipinas (except the one wearing sunglasses) celebrating with our friend. The one in red is the birthday girl.

Good Luck Czarina!!!

The Bb. Pilipinas World Czarina Catherine Gatbonton is now competing in China for the Miss World 2010 title. I did not like this girl at first but she grew on me. She is really beautiful. I hope she will do well in this competition. She did not make the Beach Beauty fast track which really made me sad for days but I still have hopes for her to get the crown. I pray that she wins it all. She deserves it.

Good luck Czarina! Make the Filipinos around the world proud!

Balikbayan Box for November

It is time to fill my box again. My box is only half full. I need to buy more things like maybe shampoos, conditioners, lotions, soaps and some food like noodles, spaghetti pasta and macaroni. Of course, I can't forget the chocolates. Halloween is coming and the stores usually will sell their candies on clearance after the trick-or-treat.

I was going to send them this month in time for Christmas but I don't think it will happen. The cargo company says it will take 50-55 days to get there but the last box I sent took 60 days. So, it will take two months or more especially that it is the holidays. My family will just have to wait until January next year to get the taste of chocolates that they really like.

Charice on Glee, My Opinion

Charice was on Glee Tuesday night on FOX. I was so excited because she'd be in the show. My husband had to give his football channel up. LOL. I noticed some good and bad things in the show though.

The good things:
1. She had a few decent scenes for a newcomer.
2. Her acting was lacking something but not that bad considering that was the first time we saw her act. Good job for a first timer.
3. Her voice showed a lot of talent from a tiny Filipina.

The bad things:
1. Her facial expression was not that convincing.
2. Her choreography when she sang "Listen" was boring. Why does she move her arms the same way every time she performs (like extending her arms to each side)? It is getting boring and annoying, actually. She has to hire a choreographer.

Well, that is all for now. I love Charice and I hope she'll do better the next time she'll be on the show. Good luck for this new Hollywood career!

Are You Excited To See Pacquiao vs. Margarito?

I am actually excited. If Manny Pacquiao is in the ring then it's a rumble. I watched all of Manny Pacquiao fights thanks to YouTube. He is the Filipino pride. I am proud of him.

Anyways, good luck Manny! I hope you'll win this November against Antonio Margarito.

Thinking About Boxing

I always read articles about Manny Pacquiao. I am a huge Manny Pacquiao fan. I just saw the news today that Mayweather gave a racist rant to Manny recently and was arrested for beating her girlfriend. Mayweather, get it together dude!

I am excited to see the Manny vs. Antonio fight. Can't wait. Good luck Manny!

Venus Raj, Filipinos Are Proud of You!

Venus Raj ended up as 4th Runner Up in the Miss Universe 2010. Despite stumbling in the Q&A portion of the competition, we are still so proud of you for winning that place. We love you. You are an inspiration. I hope you had a great time in the United States. I hope and pray that your career will sore like an eagle wherever you are.

By the way, she is very pretty in the photo above.

Balikbayan Box

I finally found a place that can send a Balikbayan box for my family in the Philippines. I bought the box for only $10 and then filled the box with goodies. Then my husband took it to the Filipino store to send the box and it cost us $140 for it to be sent to Mindanao. I hope my family in the Philippines will receive with no problem.

I don' trust the Philippine postal service anymore. They failed me a lot of times. A lot of them are not honest so I don't want to waste my time and money. I hope this new one that I found will be good.

New Look

I had my hair cut recently and this is how I look like with a short hair. I kept my long hair for a while and I just got tired of it. I decided to have it cut short this time. You can tell that I look tired in this picture. Just got too busy.

Mind-Boggling

A lot of things came to mind and it is all about the subject "to petition my parents". I want to bring my parents into the United States so we can be together. I think they are very excited to come visit the America. They want to explore the USA which is a most wanted place for immigrants.

Well, as you all know, a lot of Filipinos want to come here to live their American dreams. They want to live richer, more prosperous, better and happier life. Here in the United States, you can have a good-paying job even without a college diploma as long as you have a good work history (related experience) and work ethic. If you work hard, you will have an opportunity to get those toys such as I-pods or I-phones, WII, an SUV, or even your own house if you have enough money to pay (as long as the government won't raise the taxes too high). If you have extra money, you can go to restaurants that you have been wanting to try, go to vacations into places like San Francisco where the famous Golden Gate is or see the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles, experience the roller coaster ride at Disneyland or maybe just stomp through the snow, how about that?

I know not all of you agree with me that is why there are terrorists. You can not please everybody. I learned that in high school myself as the president of the student body. In high school, people who were not pleased are not terrorists I promise. Terrorists want to destroy this free country. You all see the 9/11, right? So I know not everybody will be pleased with this post.

Hopefully, Obama won't turn our American dreams upside down like a hot pancake. With all the super spending that his administration is doing, it is very scary. Not everybody realizes it, but it is not good for the future of this country especially our kids who will be paying the debts. My Gabby is 2 months old but already has a debt. Can you imagine that?

Anyway, how am I going to bring my parents in the United States? My big problem is the discrepancy in the important documents especially their marriage certificate. I am not sure where or how to start solving it. My mother who is an elementary teacher is very busy and my father can not do it alone because it is my mother's name that has the error. I do not know what to do. I am thinking about bringing my younger brother first but it will take forever. If lucky, we can wait for approximately 11 years (I think) for him to get a visa if he does not get married before the visa gets approved. If I petition my parents, it will only take approximately 6 months assuming I have all the documents necessary that immigration needs. What a big difference, huh!

I think they said that we need to hire an attorney in order to get the errors changed. That is such a BS. Why such a hassle? I did not hire any immigration attorneys here in the United States to process all of my immigration applications. I did them myself (except the K1 visa) with the help of VisaJourney.com or USCIS.gov. I wish the Philippines had an easier way.

Sure...give me some advice. This is a mind blogging procedure in my head. I have a lot already. Help me! Help me!

What happened?

I am not sure what happened today. I was just taking my time and taking care of my kids, a 2 year old and a month old infant, when my feelings got messed up. I started crying and feeling down. I felt like I was alone and wished I could do something more other than staying in the house. I have no idea what did it. Am I just stressed out? or do I have the baby blues symptoms?

My husband, thank goodness, has patience and understands me. He knew what I was going through probably and asked me if I needed time alone. Of course, I took the opportunity and said yes. He brought the kids to my mother-in-law's house and spent time there with family. I was left alone in the house and tried to enjoy the quiet time. It was nice. It renewed something which I still do not know what. I took a nap on the couch and then took a nice hot shower afterward. It felt great.

I hope it won't happen again or at least not often. It is not good that I am feeling something that I can not explain. Well, I am still adjusting to a new life which is a mother of two...challenging actually.

Want To Be A Caregiver In Canada

I am sure there are a lot of Filipinos who want to work abroad especially to Canada, USA or UK. A kilo of rice in the Philippines has tripled after four years of living in the United States. Gas Price hits record high. Food prices are painful. What are you going to do?

My bestfriend is currently studying a Nursing Aid course for 6 months and is aiming to work abroad after she graduates. It might not be as easy as it sounds but at least she has this kind of plan. I am trying to help her by searching online about working in Canada. I found a website owned by a Filipina in Canada who married maybe a Canadian guy.

Check the site Nice Heart International.

They also have a toll free number of (877) 580-5198. I should call and see what they'll say. I am really determined to help my bestfriend and making sure she gets a good paying job.

If you have any idea as to where my bestfriend can apply or get an employer that can sponsor her, please leave me a message.

Thank you.

It has been a busy few days

I just do not have that much time to blog anymore. I work in front of the computer all day at work and when I get home, my energy seems to go away. My son and my husband helped me get my energy back. Thank you Michael & Pappadaddy.

Okay, I just want to tell you all some few things.

First, I just want to remind the parents about "Dry Drowning". To know more about it, please read this article. It is very alarming. You child's lungs might be drowning without you knowing it. A 10-year old boy died an hour later after their swim in the swimming pool. He walked home, took a bath and went to bed. His mom found him dead later in his room. So please read it. It can't hurt you spending a little time.

Second, to my sweet co-bloggers who tagged me recently, I will post the tag as soon as I can. Right now, my eyelids are falling.

Last, I am sad that Rudy "Daboy" Fernandez, one of my favorite Filipino actors died last week at a young age. I will miss him. Prayers to his family.

That is all for tonight. I will post more tomorrow, God willing.
God bless and happy blogging!

Plans...

I have a lot of plans that have been bothering me. I guess I think things a lot even though they are still far from reality. I just love to think in advance. Part of it is because I am an introvert person.

Here are the things in my mind recently:

My son and I in the Philippines - When I visit my family with my son who has a nut allergy, is it going to be hard for my son to eat there? If he'd have a bad allergic reaction, do the hospitals in the city know how to deal with it? Nut allergy is so rare in the Philippines, I believe. I only heard of it here in US.

My bestfriend plans to visit us - my bestfriend is planning to visit us here in Colorado Springs. I am worried that there won't be enough space for her in our house. We only have 2 bedrooms at this time because our basement is still unfinished. She does not care but I like her to be comfortable as much as possible and staying in a hotel won't do any good. It will be too expensive.

Have a finished basement - Am I thinking too much about money? I am always thinking about working overtime at work so I can save money to finish our basement. Would it be too much for me and my family?

Am I getting a sloppy mother? - I am getting lazy. I guess I am just stressed out from working too much. My son is a handful too.

I don't know why I am thinking too much. I had to say sorry again to my husband today because I acted like a monkey (he said jokingly). I have to slow down...slow down...slow down...meditate maybe.

I Have Astigmatism

I started getting headaches a lot when I was in 4th grade. My parents thought I had a migraine. They brought me to a healer and this healer provided me a kind of flower (I forgot what it was). The healer said to always apply the flower on my forehead on a specific stroke- center to right temple, center to left temple. I had to leave the flower juice on my forehead for 24 hours. It seemed to help. My headaches stopped.

In 1997 my frequent headaches came back. One day, I had to stay in bed with my eyes closed. I vomited a lot and the daylight was too bright. My parents thought I had an eye problem so they brought me to an Optometrist. The Optometrist said that I had an astigmatism. I did not know what the h*ll it was. So, I started using eyeglasses. I am not sure why I was so excited to be able to use an eyeglasses. I thought people with eyeglasses were cute and hip.

I looked like a genius (I thought) when I started my sophomore year. I was the only one with glasses. I felt so cool. I used my glasses for quite a while until prior to my high school graduation. I just realized that I looked old with them.

So, what is astigmatism? According to MedicineNet.Com, Astigmatism is characterized by an irregular curvature of the cornea. It is an eye disorder which is also known as a refractive error. The eye of a person with astigmatism is shaped more like a football or the back of a spoon instead of a spherical in shape.

The causes of astigmatism can be hereditary, can be from pressure from the eyelids on the cornea, incorrect posture or an increased use of the eyes for close work.

I am not sure what caused mine because I am the only one with astigmatism in the family. My mother used to always tell me (scold me) that I used to read a lot in a dimly lit room. I know. I get very lazy once I get excited with things so I probably was too lazy to get the light (lampara).

Now, I use my eyeglasses when I am driving only. I am nearsighted so I can see very well while working in front of my computer but things far from me are too blurry. I still get headaches but not too bad. I guess I just have to be careful with my eyes by not blogging too much. Sigh!

It is just I

I wish I can fly. I wish I can solve mysteries. I wish I was a police officer. However, I can be a forensic scientist...someday.

I wish I was rich. I wish I had more time to work. I wish to win a Powerball. However, I can save money from blogging.

I wished I had more jeans in high school. I wished I had more dresses in college. I wished there was a more durable pair of pants. Now, those wishes have come true especially the durable pants such as the 5.11 Tactical Pants.

I am a person with lots of wishes. How about you?

Are You Wearing A Butt Floss?

These words just crack me up. I am still laughing right now. I was reading a discussion at blogcatalog about who made thongs. I then saw the comment about butt floss. I realized that thongs are kind of a butt floss.

I do not wear thongs at all. They are uncomfortable. I wear granny's underpants. Just kidding. I wear just the normal one. I did not say that thongs are not normal but thongs are not for me. I am too traditional (Filipino thingy) I guess.

I remember waiting on a checkout line and this lady in front of me bent down to look for something in her bag. I observed a colorful letter "T" behind her. I was gonna tell her that her thongs were showing but I did not know how to say it. I just looked somewhere else.

What would you do if you saw something like that?

My Baby Started Blogging

That is a good title. I hope people will click that. :)

My Big baby started his own blog because I pushed him to. He likes to write and he is a very good writer so I thought it would be good for him. He is very particular with English grammar so sometimes I get embarrased when he reads my stuff. He actually made a comment one night. Hahaha. He said that I should read a "Writer's Reference" book so that I know how to write legally. Okay! He wanted me to avoid plagiarism. I got his point.

I still need to work on my English Grammar, though. I get confused with the plural and singular sometimes. That is even the easiest part. I'd use the "she" instead of a "he" or vice versa. Sometimes, I bug him for a better grammar on a post. Isn't it very nice to have a walking English Grammar Dictionary? I should probably read and learn more.

My Baby has a new post right now about politics. I saw "Billary Clinton" in that post . I thought that was funny. Creative actually. He is one of those million bloggers that writes about politics right now. It is just a hot topic.

Visit his blog for more Musings of a Deranged Soul. What is "deranged"? I have not asked him about that yet.
